The George Washington University head in Biomedical Engineering, Professor Murray Loew, has been appointed an International Visiting Fellow with the CSIRO e-Health Research Centre.
"The Fellowship provides Professor Loew with the opportunity to work for a month with CSIRO e-Health colleagues to increase our understanding of how joint initiatives between Australia and the USA can be established," said Gary Morgan, Chief Executive of the e-Health Research Centre.
The impact of ICT on health across Australia is an important research theme within the e-Health Research Centre portfolio, but until now the centre has concentrated its efforts on Australian opportunities.
"It was pleasing to see the CSIRO e-Health Research Centre involved in a number of different health business directions with its research," said Professor Loew. "The fact that it can operate in more than one business model and sustained research activity in more than one technology area is a core strength of the CSIRO e-Health Research Centre."
Professor Loew heads the Biomedical Engineering program at George Washington University in Washington DC. He has been working on automated image analysis on multiple modalities and also on visual perception issues with radiology. He was co-founder of a research Centre in Medical Imaging at George Washington University, shared between Engineering and Medicine. Professor Loew has established strong links with other USA universities and Federal Government funding agencies.
CSIRO e-Health Research Centre Visiting Fellowships are designed to enable International and Australian-based researchers to be seconded from their organisations to undertake agreed collaborative projects under the auspices of CSIRO's e-Health research program.
